Delta Lady
Am I being pulled into a black sorority different for the wrong reasons?

I have a very wonderful friend who is a member of Delta Sigma Theta. She is an incredible leader and very active in the community, I admire and look up to much. However, often implying that I think of her sorority, but always I have been interested in Alpha Kappa Alpha and have great hopes for a oppurtunity there. Deltas have been around a lot, but I have never known or seen any Alpha Kappa Alpha Ladies Unfortunately my area, sometimes I feel I should give up and go the route with my friend? Is that bad? What should I do?

I'm sure your friend is not trying to make you feel bad. Many times we want our friends to do things with us. I really want some of my friends who are members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated me, but I do not want to be members, because I want to be. You have to really want to be part of these type organizations, in order to do best for you. I have several relatives who are members of Delta Sigma Theta, but I had another guild in mind. Take time to reflect on why you want to be a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha. If you decide you still want to continue AKA, then you should meet members of the network, as intake in all NPHC Sororities is based on the service and after fulfilling the requirements that have votes cast. I hope you take to mind what I and other posters say. Alpha Kappa Alpha, as well as other NPHC orgs require a whole lifetime commitment, your friend will be able to tell you about that part.
